Chapter 9 Action and TransportationSection 3 Turning and Moving ClientsPrinciples of moving and turning clients ① Before you lift or move a client, determine the causes and consequences of the client’s illness. ② Evaluate the client’s weight and the extent he can move himself in order to decide how much person you need to move the client. ③ Before you begin, thoroughly explain the procedures you will be completing so that you obtain the client’s cooperation. ④ Positions in which clients are placed, methods of moving, and turning should all be based on the principles of maintaining the musculoskeletal system in proper alignment. ⑤ When moving a client you should lift him or her up from bed, in case of rubbing the skin off. Transferring with one nurse For the client who’s state of illness is not so bad and who’s weight is light Transferring with two and three nurses For the client who’s illness is worse than before and who is heavy. Transferring with four nurses This method is used to move client whose vertebras are broken or the state of illness is critical. How to move the gurney ① Pay attention to the client’s state of illness in case anything happens. ② The speed you move the gurney should not be too quick. ③ When up or down a slope, the head of client should be at the upper position. ④ If there are big wheels and small wheels, the head of client should be put on the part of big wheels. ⑤ If there is a door, you should open the door first, and then pull the gurney in.
