穴义

胃脘，中医学名词，泛指肋弓以下之腹上部。
此穴能治胃部疼痛(胃神经痛，胰腺炎引起的疼痛等)，故名。

Meaning

Weiwn, a term of Traditional Chinese Medicine, here means the part of the body at the upper abdomen under the costal arch; Xia means the inferior; Shu, the point of transferring and transportting the Qi and Xue(blood).
The point can treat the pain on the epigastric area(such as the gastricneuralgia, pancreatitis, etc). So it was called "Weiwanxiashu".

定位

在背部，当第八胸椎棘突下，旁开1.5寸。

Location

On the back, 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the eighth thoracic vertebra.

主治

1. 消渴，咽干
2. 胃痛，胁痛

Indication

1. diabetes, dryness of the throat.
2. gastric pain, pain in the hypochondrium.

针法

斜刺0.3-0.5寸

Method

oblique insertion 0.3-0.5 cun.
